Geoforms. The Jamapa glacier was formed on the last lava flow of the Pico de Orizaba volcano, in the last four centuries, the movements of the glacier were modeling these immense igneous rocks. When the glacier ended up disappearing in the nineties, it left its mark on them as deep scratches. At 5200 meters above sea level, I took the samples in silicon and later reproduced them in ceramics.
Antes del presente, 2018
Before Present. Tania Ximena created a hybrid for this exhibition: a volumetric map that brings together geography and cosmogony, myth and history, and an affective image of her relationship with the territory.

Cerro del Encanto; Volcán Chichón, 2016. Collaboration with Yollotl Alvarado
Cerro del Encanto. On the night of March 28, 1982, the Chichón volcano, located in northeastern Chiapas, the zone of the Zoques province, erupted by destroying a quarter of the central dome. In spite of the constant warnings of volcanic reactivation and the earthquakes that had been happening with great frequency since 1980, an emergency plan was not implemented and the population was taken by surprise, affecting more than 20 thousand people who inhabited the surrounding area. Esquipulas Guayabal was one the areas affected by the eruption; relocated next to Rayón, it was renamed New Guayabal Esquipulas. However, once installed, reality was not as they had planned. In the last two years, the activity of the volcano increased. At the beginning of 2015 we began an investigation in collaboration with the community of Esquipulas. This video shows two ways in which the territory was given new meaning: one with Trinidad; Young poet who seeks to rescue Zoque cosmogony and the other with some ejidatarios who lived the eruption.
3 de abril de 1982. El momento más oscuro de la noche, 2015. Collaboration with Yollotl Alvarado
3 de abril de 1982. The Chichonal Volcano is an active volcano in north-western Chiapas, México. The 1982 eruption of El Chichón is the largest volcanic disaster in modern Mexican history. One of the lost religious practices of the ancient Mexicans is the ceremony of Tepictoton(“tiny Gods” in the Mexican indigenous language called Nahuatl). During the ceremony, the ancient Mexicans molded the hills, mountains and volcanoes that hold deities, using a dough made with a mixture of amaranth and honey. Then, at the climax of the celebration they cut the heads of the gods-mountains like if they were live animals and eat them by all the participants.
49º North, 2014
49º North. Portrait of Sasha (Aleksandr Romanovskiy), one of the 14 inhabitants of Pyramiden, a Russian ghost town located at the Svalbard’s archipelago, an international territory, administered by Norway, in the Arctic. Pyramiden once was the utopian model of communism, now is occupied by the wildlife of the Arctic.
North Pole Ice Calving, 79° North Pole, 2014
North Pole Ice Calving. In the summer of 2014, during The Arctic Circle residence and expedition in Svalvard, Norway, an archipelago in the Arctic, I collected fragments of ice recently detached from the glaciers, the process consisted of obtaining ice molds in Alginate to obtain the mold before of the melting of the ice, later I returned to make a plaster mold, the final result is ceramic.

Tesalonicenses. Since the last year the Nevado de Toluca is no longer a National Park. When you go up to the volcano, you get into an edge in where you can see the whole landscape, like when you walk into a church and suddenly the cupola opens. In the Epistle to the Thessalonians, it is said that God will take the elected bodies and raise them to the kingdom of heaven. I always read the biblical passage as a process of abduction. Perhaps the Thessalonians are a different race that is characterized by a renewed admiration for this world, according to which a landscape is also a temple.
Silence Procession. The Penitentes are a snow formation found at high altitudes. They take the form of tall thin blades of hardened snow or ice, closely spaced with the blades oriented towards the general direction of the sun. Since 2011 I’ve worked with the Penitentes over the glaciers on the top of the volcano Iztaccihuatl, I sculpt them in ceramic closest as I found them. The glaciers in México have less that 10 year life but possibly when the glaciers die the Penitentes still exist in the same place.
La Isla. The geography of the island is especially peculiar, with its 2500 square km surface, from sea level to 3300 m altitude, in this change of altitude, landscape, climate and population there are extreme geographical delimitations. La Isla (the island) is constituted by several canyons, the three calderas of the main volcano by which it is constituted are collapsed and to the south of it, the youngest and most active volcano continues forming canyons.
La Isla consisted of a circular drawing of 20 m long and 120 cm high suspended in a circular metal structure hanging from the roof of the hangar, the drawing inside the circle and the white paper outside. The distance between the floor and where the paper began, 120 cm. I had conceived the idea of the island as a series of mountain ranges, both mountainous, as well as water, socio-cultural, economic and spatial. For the inhabitants of La Réunion, the piece made a lot of sense; it was partly sensitive and part environmental. At the start, there was a barrier under which you had to duck to enter and once inside, the panorama opened before an infinite landscape that at the same time is a prison.
